Trail Builder Setups - B.O.B. Gear Tool Rax for YAK & Ibex Models

In our last feature highlighting a custom builder set-up, we showed Glen Gollrad’s B.O.B. trailer, modified to hold trail tools and other gear. I love the D.I.Y. ethos, and it started me thinking about how I could pimp my ride.

But, I’m also lazy, so I was pretty psyched to see Martin Ready’s email showing his set-up which uses a kit specifically for B.O.B. trailers; B.O.B. Gear Tool Rax for YAK & Ibex Models.

Ready, owner of Island Mountain Rides, in Cumberland, British Columbia, is a ride guide and trail builder. He works with his local bike club, United Riders of Cumberland, and this trailer has been part of his gear for almost 20 years.

Sometime around 2009, Ready met the owner of B.O.B. trailers while working at the B.C. Bike Race.

“He and his race partner were wearing B.O.B. trailer jerseys, I told him that I loved the trailer and that I used it for trail maintenance,” says Ready.

That encounter worked out well, he adds, “He asked me if I had the tool rack and I was not aware of it at the time, he took my address and sent me the one that I still have.”

When asked how it’s been working all these years, Ready said, “the tool rack works really well.”

And other than occasionally overloading the trailer (and who hasn’t done that), he’s had no complaints.

That was enough for me to follow the link he provided and ordered one for myself. Interestingly, and I can NOT explain this. When I bought it, the kit was just under $36, now it’s selling for $92. I guess I got lucky (doesn’t happen often), I’m sure you could find other purchasing options on the interwebs.

If not, there’s always the D.I.Y. approach.
