Trail Builder Setups - Using a Modified B.O.B. Trailer
Glen Gollrad, a self-described “middle-aged mountain biker, incessant tinkerer and trail fixer,” uses a modified B.O.B. trailer to bring his tools to the woods. He says getting to the best singletrack could add hours of walking to work time, so a trailer was “the clear choice.”
“After asking ‘The Google’ what others had done, it was clear that a simple wood 'basket adapter' was likely going to be the best bet,” he says. It extends over the front and rear of the basket and has notches for the longer hand tools.
“I left a slot at the rear on one side so the chainsaw bar could slip through, parallel and next to the rear tire,” Gollrad adds, “the first versions were super crude, but on my third one I was getting it dialed.”
His typical tool set includes a Pulaski, Hoe, and Hoe / Rake combo.
“I can carry most of the handled tools with the chainsaw in place, and I added a piece of foam floor tile to the basket to cushion the bottom of the saw and other stuff while bouncing down the trails,” says Gollrad.
“After dozens of trips, a few with that sucker VERY overloaded, I can say it works great,” he adds.
The one thing he wishes he could add? “I'd love to have an adjustable leaf blower mount so while riding, it was blowing,” but he’ll hold off on that controversial attachment for now.
